Syndiotactic polystyrene – XAREC® SPS
XAREC® SPS has been put into production by Idemitsu Kosan since 1997. The structure of XAREC® SPS is different from common polystyrenes in which it is formed from regular alternative arrangement. Due to properties that common polystyrenes do not own, it becomes an emerging and excellent material.
The characteristics of XAREC® SPS include:
- Low density
- Resistance to hydrolysis and steam
- High resistance to heat (Heat distortion temperature around 250℃)
- High mobility, little wear-and-tear to molds
- Little dielectric loss
- Good resistance to acids and alkalis
- Good resistance to oils, aliphatic solvents
Density Comparison

XAREC® SPS is mainly classified into the grades below:
- Approved by FDA, EU food level and NSF drinking water level: WA212
- Approved by FDA, EU, GB food contact: S135
- Approved by Japan food contact: C132
- Flame retardant V-0,approved by long-time heat resistant UL746B: S931
